
Question: How do I get Canadian Citizenship?
Answer: In order to be eligible for Canadian citizenship, you must:
Become a permanent resident
Tax returns for at least three years
Pass the citizenship test
Prove your language skills in English or French
No criminal record
There are several steps to applying for Canadian citizenship:
Calculating your physical presence in Canada: You must be physically present in Canada for at least 1,095 days (three years) in past 5 years.
Download and complete the application package: Be sure to complete the form correctly, including two certified photos of citizenship and all supporting documents such as immigration documents, language proof, photo ID.
Pay the application fee: $630 per adult citizenship application and $100 per minor application (under 18).
Submit your application: Send your completed application packet by mail or courier as soon as possible (Online mode of application is also available now).
Take the Citizenship test: Once your application has been reviewed, you may be invited to take the citizenship test within a few weeks of receiving your return receipt (AOR) letter. The citizenship test is based on the official citizenship study guide, Exploring Canada: Citizenship's Rights and Responsibilities. You can take the test in English or French.
Attend an interview: After the test, a citizenship officer may ask you to meet with you and check your language skills, verify your application and original documents and ask any questions they may have.
